Widow’s Flame book cover designed by Kit Cronk for Shawline Publishers and author Jess McFarlane.
CONCEPT:
The story is set in the late 1800’s and centres around a widowed woman hell bent on revenge and consumed with her grief.
The hand lettered title is inspired by the time period, making it look slightly ornate and Victorian while still easy to read. The twisting vines grow from thorns to thriving with new leaves, to mirror the character’s arc in the book. Central to the design is a flower of flame, to represent the rage and grief at the heart of the main character.

A collection of cover designs for the Polo Heat series by Katherine Avery author and Peak Press publishers.
This romance series is both steamy and funny, and includes a lot of favourite romance tropes like enemies to lovers, second chance romances, friends to lovers, and more. I worked directly with the authors and publisher to find the perfect poses and outfits to convey the characters relationships and personalities through the cover design.

“Take Chances, Make Mistakes, Get Messy.” - Ms. Frizzle
If you haven’t watched the reboot (or rewatched the original) of The Magic Schoolbus on Netflix, you should.
I was surprised that I learned a lot just having it on in the background while I was working. Of course I had to illustrate the Frizz’s famous catchphrase.
